Ages 8-9

Not much changed with approach to different exercises, we increased the weight and distances as he grows older.  Definitely heavier than his peers.  Heavier in a way that a 30 lbs. suitcase feels lighter than a 30 lbs. dumbbell.

This was the age group we developed the Manus Sphere and focused a lot on the hands.

Rise in Broken Bones in Children

A lot of reasons for this probably, this article links it to calcium, and there might be some truth to that.  I think the bones not being worked are a big factor.

If the argument is that there was a rise in youth sports, I would agree with that fact.  I do not think youth sports should be relied on as a bone building activity.  There are many reasons for a decay in bone strength.  The best thing you can do for him is help fight against modernity.

Dad Science > Bro Science

  • Don’t optimize this stuff, don’t set out to break records, build the bones over time.  Small iterations and every 4-5 weeks do a grueling week of heavy lifting.  Be careful!

Notes

  • Started to use an axle barbell, lift and carry for distance.

  • Made the throwing weight heavier and the quality of the form to throw it go pretty good.

  • One hand hangs, really liked these.

  • Weighted walk with head weight is still the king of exercises.
